Jay Harris claimed the inaugural trophy with a brilliant strike against Barrow during the 2012-13 season. The midfielder received the award from Wendy Edwards and Steve’s commentary colleague Alex Taylor, beginning a tradition that continues to recognise the club’s finest goals each season.
Harris scored 20 goals across 256 competitive appearances for Wrexham between 2010 and 2021, establishing himself as a key figure during the club’s non-league years. The Liverpool-born midfielder won Conference Premier Player of the Month in January 2011 and became a fan favourite through his combative style and commitment.
Andy Morrell won in 2013-14 with a fine volley against Forest Green Rovers. Morrell remains one of Wrexham’s most prolific strikers in modern history, once scoring seven goals in a single match against Merthyr Tydfil in February 2000.
Mark Carrington followed in 2014-15 after his spectacular diving header gave Wrexham the lead in the FA Cup third round at Premier League Stoke City on January 4, 2015. The goal arrived in the 73rd minute, exactly 23 years to the day after Wrexham had stunned Arsenal at the same stage of the competition.
Carrington met Connor Jennings’ cross with a stooping header past Jack Butland to send over 5,000 travelling Wrexham fans into delirium at the Britannia Stadium. The Conference Premier side held their advantage for just seven minutes before Stoke equalised through Marko Arnautovic, with Stephen Ireland scoring twice late to complete a 3-1 comeback.
The right-back made nearly 250 appearances for Wrexham across eight years before leaving in 2021. His FA Cup strike remains one of the most memorable goals in the trophy’s history, representing the moment Wrexham dared to dream of a giant-killing against top-flight opposition.
Mullin dominance and recent winners
Paul Mullin dominates the trophy’s recent history with four wins across the last five seasons. The striker joined Wrexham from Cambridge United in 2021 after scoring 32 League Two goals, dropping down a division to be part of the Hollywood-backed club’s promotion push.
Mullin scored 38 National League goals in 2022-23 as Wrexham won the title, earning him the FA Cup Golden Ball Award after finishing as the competition’s top scorer with nine goals. He reached 100 goals for Wrexham in April 2024 during a 6-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers that clinched promotion to League One.
The striker’s consistency proved remarkable across four consecutive seasons scoring 25 or more league goals in the top six tiers of English football. Only Thierry Henry, Harry Kane and four others previously achieved this across three seasons, making Mullin’s feat historic.
His 2021-22 winning goal came against Stockport County in the FA Trophy semi-final, scoring twice in stoppage time with audacious lobs over the goalkeeper. The 2022-23 winner remains unspecified, while his 2023-24 strike came against Forest Green Rovers in that promotion-clinching rout.
Mullin’s 2024-25 winner against Blackpool continues his remarkable goalscoring record. He underwent spinal surgery in June 2024 for a long-term lower back issue, missing the start of the Championship campaign before returning to action.
Luke Young claimed back-to-back honours in 2018-19 and 2019-20 with goals against Dagenham and Redbridge and Bromley respectively. Jordan Davies won in 2020-21 with a strike against Halifax Town during Wrexham’s final non-league season before promotion.
Dom Vose, Ntumba Massanka and Chris Holroyd each won once during Wrexham’s National League years. Vose’s 2015-16 winner came against Gateshead, Massanka struck against Guiseley in 2016-17, and Holroyd scored against Tranmere Rovers in 2017-18.
Ryan Barnett broke Mullin’s winning streak in 2023-24 with his goal against Forest Green Rovers, though Wikipedia records suggest Mullin also won that season. There is no official recorded winner for the 2022-23 season.
