The new Kop Stand at The Racecourse hit a major construction milestone on Wednesday morning, 9 September, as the final section of the primary roof truss was lifted into place.
Footage filmed at the Racecourse shortly after 8am showed cranes moving the last piece into position, completing one of the most visually striking elements of the redevelopment so far.
While Wrexham AFC had not made a formal announcement confirming the specific milestone at the time of writing, video from the site clearly shows the progress. It represents another sizeable step forward in the long-awaited return of the Kop.
Final section of Wrexham Kop roof truss lifted into place
The scale of the new structure has already changed the look of the Racecourse, with workers spending recent days assembling and lifting the huge steel sections into position.
Video recorded on Wednesday morning described it as the “final section” for the roof truss, calling the moment “one major milestone for this build”.
The lift follows a series of similar operations in recent days, including further roof work ahead of the Burnley game on Tuesday night.
With the main structure now in place, supporters can get a much clearer idea of the scale of the new home end and how dramatically it will alter the stadium’s profile.
New Kop will transform the STōK Cae Ras
The redevelopment is being delivered by McLaren Construction, with Populous responsible for the design.
Plans include safe standing, general admission and hospitality areas as Wrexham work towards restoring a permanent fourth side to the ground.
The design also features a brick façade inspired by Wrexham’s industrial heritage, alongside prominent references to the dragons from the club crest.
Beyond increasing the number of supporters Wrexham can accommodate, the project will improve facilities and help the Racecourse meet UEFA Category 4 requirements.
The current construction phase follows the official groundbreaking in December 2025, with progress becoming increasingly visible throughout this year.
Wrexham targeting 2027/28 opening
Although completing the primary roof truss is an eye-catching landmark, there is still plenty of work required before supporters can fill the new stand.
Wrexham chief executive Michael Williamson has previously indicated that the aim is to have the Kop fully operational for the beginning of the 2027/28 season. No new change to that target had been confirmed as of 9 September.
Construction will continue with further roofing work, the external façade and an extensive internal fit-out before the stand can open.
For supporters who have looked at an empty end of the Racecourse for years, Wednesday’s progress is particularly significant. The new Kop is no longer simply rising behind the goal. Its enormous roof structure now dominates that end of the ground.
