Wrexham’s reported interest in Djurgårdens IF striker could offer an early indication that Phil Parkinson is looking to add more firepower when the January transfer window opens.
Reports are circulating that the 24-year-old Norwegian striker has been added to Wrexham’s watchlist, with Birmingham City also tracking him. There has been no reported approach or bid at this stage, with the interest described as monitoring ahead of January.
Wrexham have not publicly said another striker is a priority. Yet it is a link that should interest supporters who have questioned whether Parkinson has enough goals in his attacking options, particularly given the numbers from the opening weeks of the Championship campaign.
Wrexham attack still short on goals
Wrexham have scored nine times across their opening eight Championship fixtures, with Kieffer Moore responsible for a third of that total. The Welsh international has three league goals, but others have found them considerably harder to come by.
Sam Smith, Nathan Broadhead and Bailey Cadamarteri are all yet to score in the Championship. That has left Moore carrying much of the goalscoring burden during the early stages of the campaign.
Parkinson has already identified room for improvement in attacking areas. Following the defeat to Birmingham City, the Wrexham boss pointed to a lack of “conviction, belief in the final third”, although that should not be confused with a public call from the manager for another striker.
Kristian Strømland Lien link should interest Wrexham fans
Lien’s record makes the reported interest particularly intriguing. The Norwegian has scored 15 goals in 22 Allsvenskan appearances this season, putting him joint-top of the Swedish top flight’s scoring charts, while also contributing four assists.
At 24, there is scope for further development as well as evidence of what he can already produce in front of goal. His contract reportedly runs until the end of 2029, leaving Djurgården in a strong position should interested clubs eventually come calling.
Further coverage of Wrexham’s interest has followed, although the original claim comes from On the Minute. At present, there is nothing to suggest negotiations have begun or an offer is being prepared.
January could give Parkinson another attacking option
Wrexham’s forward department changed considerably during the summer. Paul Mullin departed, Ryan Hardie and Mo Faal went out on loan and Jay Rodriguez also left, changing the options available to Parkinson through the middle.
There is plenty of football to be played before the January window arrives. Smith and Cadamarteri have time to find their goalscoring touch, while Moore has already shown he can make the difference at Championship level.
Still, the profile of the player Wrexham are reportedly watching is notable. Supporters have been calling for another reliable goalscorer, and interest in one of Sweden’s most productive strikers suggests January could be worth watching closely.
