The Football Association of Wales as well as the Football Association of England, Ireland and Scotland have submitted a joint proposal to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2035.
This would be the biggest single sporting event ever to be held in Britain, and the first FIFA World Cup match to be held here since 1966.
The proposal includes 22 possible stadiums across Britain, three of which are in Wales.

Proposed host cites and stadiums
• Belfast – Clearer Twist National Stadium at Windsor Park
• Birmingham – Sports Quarter Stadium and Villa Park
• Brighton & Hove – American Express Stadium
• Bristol – Ashton Gate
• Cardiff – Cardiff City Stadium and Principality Stadium
• Edinburgh – Easter Road
• Glasgow – Hampden Park
• Leeds – Elland Road
• Liverpool – Hill Dickinson Stadium
• London – Chelsea FC Stadium
• Manchester – Etihad Stadium
• Newcastle – St James’ Park
• Nottingham – City Ground
• Sunderland – Stadium of Light
• Trafford – Old Trafford
• Wrexham – Racecourse
63 million British residents would live within two hours of the proposed venues, and the Associations predict that 4.5 million tickets could be sold and attract a television audience of 3.5 billion worldwide.
The Associations say that the proposal is based on an inclusive vision that supports women’s football and sport in general on a global stage.
The Chief Executives of the four Football Associations have stated that welcoming the match to Britain would be a “privilege” on behalf of the four nations and that the event would be a way of developing football for women and girls.
“By working with FIFA, hosting the World Cup in Britain would give a significant boost to women’s football in Britain and globally.
“Our proposal shows a commitment to leave a lasting legacy, in the years leading up to 2035 and also in the years after.”
