Paul Mullin wore Paw Patrol football boots for Wrexham before the FA Trophy final against Bromley at Wembley in May 2022, and the real reason was far more personal than a playful design choice.
The boots quickly caught attention because they featured Marshall and Chase from Paw Patrol, along with details of Wrexham’s Wembley meeting with Bromley.
But the design was not a gimmick. It was chosen because Paw Patrol was a favourite programme of Mullin’s son, Albi.
Paul Mullin’s Paw Patrol boots had a family meaning
Mullin revealed the custom Nike boots in the build-up to Wrexham’s FA Trophy final, writing: “Ready for action Ryder sir!”
The boots also featured “FA Trophy final” on one boot and “Wrexham v Bromley 22.05.22” on the other.
At the time, it looked like another colourful moment in Mullin’s first Wrexham season. With hindsight, it was the start of something more meaningful.
The boots became part of a bigger Wrexham story
Zebra Customs later designed another pair of boots for Mullin after Albi’s autism diagnosis, with Albi’s name and Mullin’s ‘A’ celebration included in the design.
That celebration had become Mullin’s tribute to his son and the boots were created as part of the same personal dedication.
The tradition continued in January 2024, when Zebra Customs produced Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed boots for Mullin, again inspired by one of Albi’s favourite shows.
Mullin said:
“Albi Mullin over the moon with them. Thanks again Zebra Customs.”
That update showed how the custom boots had become a recurring family tribute.
Few supporters realised at Wembley that those Paw Patrol boots would become the first chapter in a tradition that stayed with Mullin throughout his Wrexham career, each new design carrying another tribute to Albi.
