Ryan Reynolds
Ryan Reynolds has delivered an emotional farewell to Paul Mullin after Wrexham confirmed the striker’s departure from the Racecourse Ground, with the co-owner praising the player who helped change the direction of the club.
Wrexham announced that Mullin had left following the Wrexham AFC contract update, bringing an end to one of the defining individual spells of the club’s modern era.
The message from Reynolds mattered because it did not read like a routine goodbye. It captured why Paul Mullin became so important to Wrexham supporters during the club’s rise from the National League to the Championship.
Ryan Reynolds’ message captured Paul Mullin’s Wrexham meaning
Reynolds used his Facebook post to praise Mullin for more than his goals, describing the standards he set every day at Wrexham.
“Every day at Wrexham, on and off the pitch, Paul set the standard for courage, for tenacity, for humanity.”
That line summed up the feeling around Mullin’s exit. Wrexham will remember the numbers, but Reynolds placed the focus on the character that made those numbers matter.
“No matter how far down we fell, no matter where we were, we never lost hope because we knew there was a real-life honest-to-goodness super-man on our side, a man who could turn the final minutes of a match into a miracle.”
Reynolds also wrote that Mullin gave hope to “a team”, “a whole town” and “the world”. It was a fitting tribute to a player whose influence followed Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham far beyond North Wales.
Paul Mullin’s Wrexham legacy goes beyond goals
Mullin leaves with 110 goals in 172 appearances for Wrexham, as well as three consecutive Player of the Season awards during his time at the club.
Those figures are outstanding on their own. They become even more meaningful because of the period in which they arrived.
Mullin joined Wrexham in 2021 and became central to three successive promotions, helping the club move from the National League to the Championship.
The official club statement thanked him for his “enormous contribution”. That phrase is simple, but it is hard to improve on.
Reynolds had previously said he could not imagine seeing Mullin in another kit, adding that Wrexham would not be where they are without his heart, skill and work ethic.
For Wrexham, Mullin was not only the finisher of chances. He became a symbol of belief at a time when the club was asking supporters to imagine something bigger.
Reynolds closed by saying he was “forever grateful” and told Mullin he would “never stop fighting for what matters most”. It was written as a farewell, but it also explained why Paul Mullin’s place in Wrexham history is secure.
