Josh Windass Could Be The Difference

Josh Windass Could Be The Difference

Josh Windass heads into Wrexham’s 2026-27 Championship season as one of Phil Parkinson’s most important attacking players, with the club preparing in Wrexham for another demanding campaign in the second tier.

This is not just about reputation. It is about whether Windass can bring a higher level of quality in the final third.

That matters because Wrexham are now judged by how well they solve Championship problems week after week.

Windass has already shown he can do that. Before arriving in North Wales, he produced 13 goals and five assists in 44 Championship appearances for Sheffield Wednesday.

Josh Windass gives Wrexham proven Championship output

Wrexham’s rise has been built on structure, belief and a strong dressing room. Windass adds something more direct.

He brings recent end product at this level. That is exactly the kind of profile Phil Parkinson needs in tight Championship matches.

Windass is not just a direct goal threat. as an attacking midfielder and forward, he adds value in several attacking roles.

That versatility matters as Wrexham will face sides who defend deep, press high and force Parkinson to adapt.

Why Windass fits Parkinson’s Wrexham plan

Parkinson’s best Wrexham teams have clear roles. They also need players who can bend a match when structure alone is not enough.

Windass can drop between midfield and attack. He can arrive late in the box and shoot from distance.

That makes him different from a pure striker. It gives Josh Windass a route to influence games even when space is limited.

Parkinson has already made clear how highly he values him. When asked about outside interest, he said via X:

“Josh is our player, he had a good season and we are looking forward to him building on that next year. We are looking to add to the quality we have got, not lose it.”

The next level depends on consistency

There is no doubt about Windass’ talent. His Championship record speaks for itself.

The real question is whether he can help make Wrexham less predictable. There is reason to believe he can.

Windass does not need to transform Wrexham on his own. He needs to provide enough decisive moments to lift the team’s ceiling.

That could mean goals from midfield. It could mean an extra pass in the final third.

It could also mean giving Parkinson one more reliable way to change a game. That is often the difference at this level.

For Wrexham, that is what the next level looks like. Windass has the experience, variety and Championship output to play a central role in it this season.
