Since there has been a question about whether the book and audiobook about Wrexham striker Paul Mullin is worth buying, Wrexham fans have exchanged views on the subject. It was interesting how much different supporters found this book because many fans liked the autobiography, whereas some others stated that it gave them quite a different view of one of the greatest Wrexham players.

The conversation started when one of the Wrexham fans who lives in New Jersey asked other fans about whether the book was good to spend an Audible credit on it. In addition, the fan shared that he became a big fan of the player after reading about his experience with his autistic son.

Released in 2023, My Wrexham Story talks about Mullin’s football career and the role he played in the impressive rise of Wrexham under Phil Parkinson. Besides the football career, it includes the story about his family and specifically his son Albi’s autism diagnosis.

Many supporters think that the audiobook is the best choice

The first strong topic that emerged in the conversation was the praise of the audiobook because some supporters mentioned that hearing it made them see it differently.

“Read it and listened to it a few years back. Was better as a listen for sure. Great nostalgia.”

Another supporter agreed, replying:

“Totally better on Audio! So right.”

Other fans feel that the book gives a genuine insight into Mullin off the pitch, especially in the chapters where he talks a about his family life.

“I got a really good sense of him from it and the dad moments were stellar listening. I did need a tissue though. Not too long either, which keeps it moving along really well making it an easy listen.”

A number of supporters also highlighted the honesty with which Mullin described the experience of bringing up a child with autism, stating that he was “the first Dad I have ever connected with,” while one’s family was going through the same thing.

However, the discussion was not only one-sided and one supporter provided a rather different opinion about the autobiography after reading it.

“It’s a terrible book and I wish I had never read it. He came across as an arrogant w***er.”

He further stated that Mullin paid too much attention to his enemies and how successful he was, and the only enjoyable part of the book were the chapters devoted to his son.

One of the supporters also added that now, when looking back at some of Mullin’s statements about how certain training methods worked for him and about his confidence in himself, the autobiography became even more interesting to read than before.

Nevertheless, despite all these contrasting opinions, the whole discussion remained quite polite and respectful.
