Wrexham Women stayed top of the Adran Premier after thrashing Pontypridd United 6-1 in South Wales on Sunday afternoon.
Jenny Sugarman’s side claimed their fourth successive victory in all competitions with a dominant display. Cardiff City beat Swansea 3-1 in the South Wales derby but remain three points behind the league leaders with a game in hand.
Wrexham raced into control before Pontypridd briefly threatened
The Red Dragons struck inside the first two minutes when Ava Suckley pounced on Katie Barker’s effort off the crossbar to knock home the rebound. Wrexham continued to press, with Lili Jones and Nat Clark both coming close before Faye Hillier-Knox doubled the advantage on 20 minutes with a stunning strike into the top corner.
Pontypridd responded almost immediately after the restart when Madison Lloyd halved the deficit with a composed finish into the far corner. The hosts briefly threatened an upset, but Wrexham’s quality would ultimately prove too much for the winless side.

Jodie Bartle came agonisingly close to restoring the two-goal cushion before half-time, powering a header against the crossbar from Knox’s delivery.
Barker’s clinical brace sparked a devastating final 20 minutes
The second half saw Pontypridd goalkeeper Alysha Hawkins produce several impressive saves to keep her side in the contest. Rosie Hughes fired into the side-netting on 70 minutes after latching onto a through-ball, but Wrexham’s pressure finally told two minutes later.
Barker made it count by powering towards goal and flicking a shot into the far corner. She extended the lead just three minutes after that, latching onto an attempted clearance and slotting past the onrushing Hawkins to take her scoring run to six consecutive games.
Hannah Snape made it five with five minutes remaining, rattling a free-kick into the far corner. Captain Bartle then nodded home from a Hughes cross in the 90th minute to complete the rout in front of 176 fans.
Fans reacted with pride after dominant victory
Wrexham supporters flooded Reddit following the result, with one fan describing the Wrexham Women as a “very exciting game to watch” with “lots of action and shots on target.” The victory placed the Red Dragons at the top of the table, if only momentarily pending the Cardiff versus Swansea result.
The growing competitive nature of the women’s team has generated significant pride among supporters this season. Fans expressed excitement regarding the current performance while offering condolences to rival teams struggling to secure points.
Cardiff’s win over Swansea means Wrexham hold a three-point advantage at the summit, though the Bluebirds have a game in hand. The title race looks set to go down to the wire between these two sides, with Wrexham supporters dreaming of a first Adran Premier championship.
