Wrexham AFC co-chairmen Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have taken on scouting duties for a new Nex Playground campaign, joining Josh Windass and Ben Sheaf in a mock recruitment interview released this week.
The advert takes the familiar setting of Wrexham’s transfer room and gives it a playful twist. Instead of evaluating a potential first-team signing, Reynolds, Mac, Windass and Sheaf are interviewing a young star of the motion-powered Nex Playground system.
It is the co-chairmen’s first appearance in a Nex campaign since the company began working with Wrexham earlier this year, extending a commercial relationship already visible on the club’s shirts this season.
Reynolds and Mac put Wrexham recruitment through a comic filter
The spot, created in collaboration with Maximum Effort, leans into the scrutiny surrounding football recruitment. Reynolds and Mac play the demanding club owners, with Windass and Sheaf sitting alongside them on the interview panel.
The humour comes from applying the intensity of professional football to a young gamer. The panel stresses that Wrexham do not want to be “mid-table” and tells the candidate they need her to be “ruthless” before the interview takes another turn.
Asked for the meanest thing she has ever said, the youngster instead slides a piece of paper across the desk. Whatever is written leaves the panel stunned before the verdict eventually arrives: “Welcome to the squad.”
Windass and Sheaf give the campaign a clear first-team connection. Both arrived during Wrexham’s Championship era and now find themselves involved in a rather different take on the club’s recruitment operation.
Nex partnership moves beyond Wrexham shirt sponsorship
Nex unveiled its Wrexham partnership in June, becoming the club’s official active gaming partner and shirt sleeve sponsor. Its branding features on the men’s and women’s first-team kits for the 2026/27 season.
Community and connection were highlighted when the deal was announced. The new advert takes the relationship into familiar Reynolds and Mac territory, using Wrexham’s profile and the owners’ comic instincts rather than relying solely on conventional sponsorship branding.
Nex Playground centres on motion-controlled games designed to get players moving. The campaign arrives as the company expands its Play Pass catalogue, with Sonic Forces joining the line-up on 7 October.
For Wrexham supporters, the joke is straightforward enough. Reynolds and Mac have overseen an increasingly ambitious recruitment operation, but this time Windass and Sheaf are helping them scout somebody whose skills are required well away from the Racecourse pitch.
