Wrexham’s new Kop Stand has reached another major milestone, with cranes lifting the first section of the roof truss into position in early September 2026. The latest work has again changed the look of the Kop end as the structure continues to rise behind the goal.
The scale of the project is clear in new aerial photographs published Roberts and Daughter, with the centre section of the roof now visible above the stand. Concrete terracing is already in place beneath the steelwork, giving supporters a clearer view of what the finished Kop will look like within the stadium.

For years, the open Kop has been one of the Racecourse’s most recognisable features. The addition of the roof truss is beginning to return shape to that end of the ground, restoring the sense of a permanent stand.
Kop roof structure begins to take shape
The roof section was assembled at ground level before being lifted into place, following months of work on the foundations, main steel frame and terracing. The project is being managed by McLaren Construction, with the new Kop forming a key part of Wrexham’s wider redevelopment plans.
Once complete, the stand will close off the Racecourse’s only open end, restoring a permanent fourth side to the stadium.

From a fan’s perspective, the latest milestone is easy to appreciate. While the steelwork and concrete have been steadily taking shape, the addition of the roof truss makes the final scale of the stand much more apparent.
2027 opening date in sight for new Kop
The approved design includes 5,500 seats, though Wrexham have also submitted plans to increase that figure, with the proposed enlarged configuration potentially taking the Kop to around 7,750. The change would push the overall Racecourse capacity beyond 18,000, according to details of the expanded Kop proposal.

Whatever the final number, full use of the Kop is planned for next year. Chief executive Michael Williamson has said the club is targeting August 2027, in time for the start of the 2027/28 season.
“The plan is that the Kop will be open and fully operational in that August period for the 2027–28 season.”
Williamson outlined that timetable in an interview with The Leader. There has also been discussion about whether a limited number of supporters could gain access earlier in 2027 if construction allows, but that remains a possibility rather than a confirmed opening plan.
There’s still plenty of work to be done before the Kop is ready for matchdays, but the progress is hard to ignore. The first roof truss going up is another clear sign that the long-awaited rebuild is moving closer to completion.
