Wrexham star Faye Knox earns historic call-up to ‘first ever’ Cymru Women’s squad

19 goals, nine assists and now a "first ever" call-up to historic Cymru opportunity for Faye Knox 👏

Wrexham AFC Women forward Faye Knox has been named in the first ever Cymru WU23 training camp squad, marking another step in her international career during the October window at the FAW headquarters in Hensol.

The 21-year-old is one of 19 players selected by Nia Davies for the inaugural camp. It is the latest milestone for Knox, who has previously represented Cymru at WU17 and WU19 level.

Her selection follows an impressive first year with Wrexham. Since arriving from Bolton Wanderers in October 2025, Knox has quickly made her mark in North Wales.

Faye Knox handed historic Cymru opportunity

The FAW confirmed Knox’s inclusion in the 19-player group as Cymru prepare to stage their first camp at WU23 level. The new age group has been introduced to help bridge the gap between WU19 and senior international football.

Knox already knows the Cymru set-up from her time with the younger age groups, and this latest call-up gives her another platform to continue her development.

She has previously made her international ambitions clear.

“I want to play for my country, which is Wales.”

Knox rewarded after outstanding Wrexham impact

Knox joined Wrexham from Bolton Wanderers in October 2025 and made an immediate impression. The Wrexham AFC Archive records 27 appearances, 19 goals and nine assists for the attacker.

Her first season also brought silverware as Wrexham won the Genero Adran Premier title and Genero Adran Trophy. Knox’s individual displays earned her Young Player of the Season and Goal of the Season honours.

Cymru Sport highlighted Knox’s impact when reporting her selection, with her performances in Wrexham colours now followed by another opportunity on the international stage.

Cymru create new pathway towards senior football

The WU23 programme was introduced by the FAW in August following several years of planning. There is no official UEFA competition at this age level, although several European nations have established similar sides.

The camp will overlap with the Cymru Women’s senior set-up at Hensol, allowing players and staff from both groups to work closely together. Davies will be assisted by former Cymru international Kayleigh Barton, Swansea City head coach Yzzy Taylor and FAW National Academi Manager Brad Flay.

Cymru will round off the camp with an uncapped, behind-closed-doors match against WSL 2 side Watford at FAW HQ.

For Knox, the call-up is another landmark following an excellent first year at Wrexham. Having already represented Cymru at WU17 and WU19 level, she now gets the chance to be part of the country’s first group taking the next step through the new WU23 pathway.
