Ryan Reynolds admission shows just how important Humphrey Ker was to Wrexham
Ryan Reynolds has highlighted just how important Humphrey Ker was to Wrexham AFC, admitting he would not have crossed paths with the club without the departing director. Ker stepped down from the club and Wrexham AFC Foundation boards on 25 September.
Ker’s formal five-year spell with Wrexham ends with the club in the Championship after three consecutive promotions. His influence stretches much further back, though, all the way to the earliest days of the takeover.
By now, the story of Wrexham under Reynolds and Rob Mac is well known. Ker was there before the cameras, the packed Racecourse nights and the promotion celebrations.
Ryan Reynolds makes telling Humphrey Ker admission
After Ker’s departure was confirmed, Reynolds used his Instagram story to highlight just how important he had been to his own involvement at Wrexham.
“Without @humphreyker I would not have been introduced to @wrexham_afc.
“He’s been a foundational presence at Wrexham since the very beginning of this project. His deep love and care for the club and community is unmatched.
“While the journey marches forward, it won’t be the same without him.”
The comments put Ker’s role into sharp focus. Wrexham’s own announcement credited him with playing a “crucial role” in bringing Reynolds and Rob Mac to the club when ownership passed from the Wrexham Supporters Trust in 2021.

Rob’s own tribute was equally personal. He described Ker’s time at Wrexham as “five years of tireless devotion” and told his long-time friend: “Your legacy will never leave @wrexham_afc.”
Humphrey Ker leaves with Wrexham transformed
Ker was far more visible to supporters than a typical football club director, thanks in part to his appearances in Welcome to Wrexham. Beyond the cameras, he was involved with the project from its earliest days.
In the official Wrexham AFC statement, Ker called working for and representing the club and wider town “the greatest honour of my life”. He also explained why he felt this was the right time to step away.
“The way the Club has evolved and is now structured has made it progressively harder for me to make a positive contribution so, sad as I am to be leaving, I now feel watching from a distance is the right thing for me.”
That evolution has been remarkable. During his time with the club, Wrexham rose from the National League to the Championship through three consecutive promotions, with the scale of the operation changing enormously away from the pitch too.
Ker has a unique place in the Wrexham story
Many people have played their part in Wrexham’s rise, from the players and Phil Parkinson’s staff to those working behind the scenes. Ker’s involvement is different because it reaches back to the point when the entire ownership project was still taking shape.
Reynolds’ words capture that better than any retrospective could. For Wrexham supporters, Ker leaves not simply as a familiar face from the Hollywood era, but as one of the people who helped make that era possible.
