Wrexham midfielder George Dobson has said the recent international break came at the right time as the club prepare to face West Brom on Friday, with seven Championship games remaining and their promotion push finely poised.
Wrexham return to action sitting seventh in the table on 63 points, level with the play-off places and within reach heading into the final stretch of the season.
The timing of the break has allowed Phil Parkinson’s side to reset after a demanding schedule, with the squad now back in full training ahead of a decisive run.
Dobson made it clear the group have used the time well and are ready to attack the final weeks with clarity and purpose.
Wrexham reset and ready for defining run-in
Speaking via Wrexham AFC, Dobson outlined the benefit of the break after a congested period.
“We had a few days off after the Sheffield United game and we’ve been back in on a normal training routine for the last week.
Training’s been good and been sharp. The break probably came at a good time, where there’s been a lot of games in a short space of time.”
The midfielder framed the run-in in simple terms, with Wrexham fully aware of what is required to extend their season.
“We’ve put ourselves in a really good position where we know that we can just go full throttle for seven games and just give it as good a go as we’ve got.”
That position is underlined by the wider Championship picture, with around 75 points typically enough to secure a play-off place.
Confidence growing within the squad
There is a consistent theme in Dobson’s message, with belief inside the dressing room continuing to build at a crucial time.
“There’s a really good feeling in the dressing room and a real excitement towards the last month of the season, because there’s still so much to play for.”
Parkinson has echoed that approach in his own press conference, stressing the importance of consistency and focusing on performance levels during what he described as a tight division.
Wrexham’s position reflects that balance, remaining within reach of the top six while maintaining steady form across recent weeks.
West Brom challenge and tactical adaptability
Friday’s opponents arrive in improved form following a managerial change, having taken eight points from their last five matches.
That context has not altered Wrexham’s approach, with Dobson pointing to the team’s ability to handle different styles as a key strength.
“We’ve done well in all sorts of games this year. I feel like that’s a big strength of ours, to be able to mix it up and play against all sorts of different styles of teams.”
He also made clear there is no fear within the group despite the stakes attached to the fixture.
“There’s definitely a lot to gain, but nothing to fear.”
Away support continuing to play key role
Wrexham will again be backed by more than 2,500 travelling supporters at The Hawthorns, continuing a trend that has supported a strong away record this season.
The side have collected eight wins on the road, a return that has kept them firmly in the promotion picture.
“I think that’s why we’ve been so strong away from home as of late and had some really good performances, our fans have been great.”
Dobson expects another demanding test but remains confident in the group’s mentality heading into the final weeks.
“We’ve put ourselves in the position where you would want to be going into the last stretch of the season. We’re just going to go for it and see where it takes us.”
With momentum rebuilt and clarity in their objective, Wrexham head into the trip to West Brom knowing the margin for error is small but the opportunity remains firmly in their hands.
