It’s a good question. Have you been there from birth? Are you one of the Wrexham fans that owned the club? Or are you like me, a newbie, someone who hasn’t been able to ignore Wrexham’s meteoric rise through league, after league, after league.
The Unforgettable Day I Became A Wrexham Fan
I remember the day I truly became a Wrexham fan.
It wasn’t when Rob and Ryan took over. Just because they were celebrities, that was interesting, fun, but didn’t mean a whole lot to me. It was 9th January 2026. As I drove past the Maelor hospital, I saw, turning towards Moneypenny, the Nottingham Forest team bus. And it was in my face. Who would I support? Forest, the team of my birth town? Or Wrexham, the team where I had made my home for over 20 years and where I intend to stay until I breathe my last?
That evening, as the wind picked up and snow began to swirl, unable to watch the match, I listened by an open window to the roar of the crowd every time a goal was scored, checking Facebook for updates from Wrexham AFC. Two goals from Wrexham put them up at half time, but by the time the match was nearing its end they had gone 2-3 down. Then Wrexham did what they are known for, they pulled a 90 minute goal out of the bag and took the match to penalties. And they held it together, winning 4-3.
I didn’t need to check my phone. The roar from the crowd told me all I needed to know. In the same way the City of Wrexham had beaten the City of Nottingham in my heart — so Wrexham AFC had beaten Nottingham Forest.
That was the day. A reds fan, but a different red.
So I ask you the same question? When did you become a fan? What was the turning point?
