Phil Parkinson took centre stage in Welcome to Wrexham season five episode two, as the FX series turned its focus to the early pressure around Wrexham’s Championship campaign at the Racecourse Ground.
The episode, titled Joey Jones, opens with Wrexham still searching for their footing after defeats to Southampton and West Brom. The narrative quickly frames the step up as a football issue, a squad issue and a pressure issue.

The most revealing part is not simply that Wrexham dropped points. It is how the spending changed the tone of the debate.
One supporter in the episode says the money spent had added pressure, while another points out that Phil Parkinson had already taken Wrexham up three times. That tension sits at the heart of the story.
