Wrexham AFC Foundation disability football teams enjoyed a memorable month at the FAW National Disability Football Festival, with the Under-16 side crowned champions and the adult team playing their first competitive fixtures together. The achievement was confirmed by Wrexham AFC Foundation on 17 June following the annual festival in Wales.
The success represents another positive moment for Wrexham’s community football programme and highlights the growing opportunities available for players of all abilities across the region.

Supporters were quick to celebrate the achievement. Messages included “Well done everyone”, “Fantastic” and “Congratulations to you all”, reflecting the pride felt across the Wrexham community.
Wrexham’s disability teams enjoy landmark day
In a post shared by Wrexham AFC Foundation, the club’s disability football programme was described as a “double success”.
The Under-16 team were crowned champions at the annual FAW National Disability Football Festival, while the adult side took part in their first-ever competitive fixtures together.
Both achievements marked important milestones for the Foundation’s disability football pathway and demonstrated the progress being made within the programme.
Success reflects wider growth across Welsh football
The achievement also comes during a period of significant growth for disability football across Wales.
According to the FAW, disability football participation has increased from 300 registered players in 2023/24 to 900 in 2025/26.
“Reaching 120,000 registered players is a proud moment for football in Wales and a testament to the incredible work taking place across the game.”
That was the message from FAW chief executive Noel Mooney as Welsh football celebrated reaching 120,000 registered players across the country.
The figures underline the growing demand for inclusive football opportunities and provide context for the success enjoyed by programmes such as Wrexham AFC Foundation’s disability teams.
Positive signs for Wrexham’s community programme
For Wrexham, the festival success is about more than trophies and results.
The adult team’s first competitive fixtures together represent another step forward for the Foundation’s work, while the Under-16s’ title success provides encouragement for the next generation of players.

With disability football continuing to grow across Wales, Wrexham’s latest achievement offers another example of how local community programmes are helping create opportunities for more people to play and enjoy the game.
The celebrations following the festival reflected that wider impact, with players, families and supporters all sharing in a positive moment for Wrexham football.
