Elliot Lee has said an emotional goodbye to Wrexham following his departure from the Cae Ras this week, bringing an end to four remarkable years in which he helped take the club from the National League to the Championship.
The 31-year-old leaves with 152 appearances and 41 goals to his name, but those numbers only tell part of the story. Lee played a part in all three promotions and produced some of his finest moments when Wrexham needed them most.
His farewell, then, feels like more than a routine squad change. It closes the Wrexham chapter of a player whose time at the club became intertwined with one of the most extraordinary periods in its history.
Lee says he had the time of his life at Wrexham
From his first appearance at the Racecourse, Lee felt a connection to Wrexham supporters, quickly realising the club was more than just a football team.
“Since my first game at The Racecourse you took me in as one of your own. I could tell this place was special and how much this meant to everyone. It was more than football.”
That connection grew alongside Wrexham’s rise.
Lee also spoke warmly about his teammates, describing the dressing room as a “band of brothers”, and praised owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac for creating an environment which made the players want to give everything.
“Knowing you have owners who genuinely care and want to help you, will make you want to run through brick walls for them. And I think you saw the lads did that!”
Elliot Lee delivered when Wrexham needed him
Lee’s time at Wrexham was filled with key contributions. In April 2023, he scored the winner in the 3-2 victory over Notts County, then headed the equaliser against Boreham Wood as Wrexham sealed the National League title and ended a 15-year absence from the EFL.
That first promotion campaign ended with a record 111 points. Lee then remained at the heart of the side as Wrexham won promotion from League Two and League One in successive seasons, completing an unprecedented run of three straight promotions through the top five levels of English football.
His opportunities became much more limited once Wrexham reached the Championship. Lee made only three appearances for the club in 2025-26 before joining Doncaster Rovers on loan in February, and his Wrexham contract was eventually terminated by mutual consent on deadline day.
A Wrexham legacy that goes beyond appearances and goals
Football moves quickly and Wrexham’s squad has inevitably changed as the club has climbed the divisions. Lee’s farewell is nevertheless a reminder of the players who turned the ambition surrounding the club into results on the pitch.
He arrived in 2022 when escaping the National League remained the overriding objective. Four years later, he leaves a Championship club having scored 41 times and collected three promotion medals along the way.
“Together we made history, broke records and made some unforgettable memories along the way. I’ve had the time of my life.”
Perhaps the most fitting line came when Lee said he and his family would remain Wrexham supporters for life. His playing days at the Stok Cae Ras are over, but his place in the story of Wrexham’s remarkable rise is secure.
