Wrexham have seven new signings but two summer exits deserve just as much attention

New chapters are beginning at Wrexham. Two unforgettable ones have just ended đź”´

Wrexham AFC emerged from the 2026 summer transfer window with seven new signings, but the departures of Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee are just as significant at the STĹŤK Cae Ras. Phil Parkinson has fresh options for another Championship campaign, but two players who helped carry the club through three successive promotions have now moved on.

There is plenty for Wrexham supporters to get excited about. Callum O’Hare, Joe Worrall, Anthony Patterson, Ben Whiteman, Danny Imray and Jacques EkomiĂ© have arrived, while Issa KaborĂ© is back on a permanent basis following his loan spell.

New signings naturally turn attention towards what comes next. Mullin and Lee, though, are a reminder of exactly what it took to get here.

Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee gave Wrexham unforgettable moments

Mullin joined in 2021 when Wrexham were still trying to escape the National League, arriving after a 32-goal League Two season for Cambridge United. By the time he left in June 2026, he had scored 110 goals in 172 first-team appearances and climbed to ninth on Wrexham’s list of leading men’s goalscorers.

His brace against Boreham Wood in April 2023 remains one of the defining moments of this entire era. Those goals helped seal the 3-1 victory that finally returned Wrexham to the Football League after 15 years away.

Lee arrived a year later from Luton Town and quickly became another trusted option for Parkinson. His final return of 41 goals in 152 appearances only tells part of the story, with his clever movement and eye for a goal proving valuable as the level rose season after season.

His farewell summed up the connection neatly. Lee said:

“It meant so much to me to pull that shirt on with my teammates every week and give everything for this club. I absolutely loved it.”

Three promotions changed the expectations at Wrexham

Between them, Mullin and Lee were involved in the National League title, promotion from League Two and then the climb out of League One. Wrexham became the first club across the top five tiers of English football to win promotion in three consecutive seasons.

That rise inevitably changed the squad. Players once recruited to get Wrexham back into the EFL eventually found themselves part of a club competing in the Championship, with the standard and competition for places increasing every summer.

The latest recruitment drive makes that evolution obvious. Worrall and O’Hare were among the summer additions, alongside Patterson, Whiteman, Imray, EkomiĂ© and KaborĂ©, giving Parkinson further choices across the pitch.

Wrexham’s future and past can sit comfortably together

Football moves quickly, particularly at a club whose rise has been anything but ordinary. Wrexham have to keep improving the squad if they want to progress, and difficult departures are part of that process.

That does not require anyone to diminish what came before. Mullin’s goals and Lee’s inventive play helped turn ambitious plans into three promotions, packed afternoons at the Racecourse and a return to a level Wrexham had not occupied for decades.

The new arrivals can now try to write their own chapter. Mullin and Lee have already written theirs, and Wrexham supporters will not forget it.
