Wrexham have officially added former Liverpool goalkeeper Miles Lewis to their academy ranks after the club announced its new scholar intake in North Wales on 5 June 2026. The 16-year-old arrives after leaving Liverpool and is set to continue his development with Wrexham’s Under-18 side.
It is another measured academy addition for Wrexham AFC, who continue to build a stronger pathway beneath the first team.
Lewis spent eight years at Liverpool before moving on this summer. His inclusion in Wrexham’s latest group of scholars was confirmed by Wrexham AFC.
Miles Lewis leaves Liverpool after eight years
Lewis had already confirmed his Liverpool departure in a personal message before his next step became clear.
“After 8 years here at Liverpool my time has come to an end. I’m so grateful for all the opportunities given to me and so proud to say I’ve represented this club, it has been a dream come true.”
The goalkeeper also thanked those who had supported him during his time at Anfield.
“I want to thank all my coaches, teammates and all the staff who have helped me get to this point in my career and put me in the best position ready for my next chapter. Thank you for everything Liverpool FC.”
That message was posted on his personal Instagram account, and it underlined the importance of his long spell in Liverpool’s academy system.
Wrexham move follows earlier academy trial
Lewis had already spent time with Wrexham’s academy earlier this year.
He trialled with the club’s Under-18s in February and also had the chance to warm up with the first-team squad before Wrexham’s game against Ipswich Town.
That first experience now leads into a more permanent role in the club’s youth set-up.
Lewis is expected to play for Wrexham Under-18s next season as part of his scholarship.
Wrexham continue academy pathway work
For Wrexham, this is not a headline first-team signing. It is still a significant academy move.
Adding a young goalkeeper from Liverpool’s system gives the club another player with a strong development background. It also fits the broader push to make the Wrexham transfer pathway more rounded across senior and youth levels.
Lewis now gets a fresh start in North Wales after a long spell with one of England’s strongest academies.
Lewis also arrives at Wrexham with what DaveOCKOP described as a pedigree that “does not come around often at this level”. Having spent eight years in Liverpool’s academy system, the goalkeeper has developed in one of England’s most competitive youth environments before taking the next step in his career with Wrexham.
For Wrexham, it is another positive step in building a deeper youth structure around the club’s recent progress.
