Phil Parkinson confirms Wrexham’s 28-man squad for United States tour as injured trio return

🚨 Wrexham have confirmed their 28-man squad for the United States tour
Andrew Pargh July 21, 2026 (Last updated: July 21, 2026)

Phil Parkinson has announced the 28-man traveling squad for Wrexham’s upcoming pre-season tour of the USA. Josh Windass, Max Cleworth and Ben Sheaf have rejoined the team after coming back from injuries.

The Reds will travel to the United States and play three games against Leeds United, Liverpool and Sunderland as part of pre-season training ahead of the upcoming season in the Championship.

More positive news came from the manager as some players took part in practice match prior to departure, though newly signed Ryan Hardie had to withdraw after injuring his thigh.

Windass, Cleworth and Sheaf make timely return

Phil Parkinson named the 28-man squad for the pre-season tour with Windass, Cleworth and Sheaf fit for playing after being injured in previous travels to Krakow and Helsinki.

The manager has revealed that newly signed player Liberato Cacace took part in a practice match and will gain some experience during the tour.

“We’ve had Windass, Sheafy, Cacace and Max all back in a practice game today, which they need because when it comes to Saturday, we’re expecting them to all play some minutes.”

Another player who is recovering and is expected to join training when the team lands in America is Ryan Longman.

Despite suffering from injuries in the past, Elliot Lee has still been picked for the match by the manager, who believes he is good to go for the second match.

The sole absentee from the squad has been Hardie, who failed to make the cut because he has an injury problem.

“Ryan Hardie is unfortunately going to miss the trip. He has a thigh strain, which is a setback for him.”

It will mark their first visit to the United States since 2024, when they faced the likes of Bournemouth, Chelsea and Vancouver Whitecaps on the Wrex Coast Tour.

The tour this year should prove to be a good learning experience for him, more so because most of the signings made last season during the summer did not get to tour internationally wearing the Wrexham shirt.

“There’s been an air of anticipation for this trip because of the stadiums we’re playing at and the opposition we’re playing against.

“This is a new squad – for the majority of the lads, this is their first tour with Wrexham, and there’s a real buzz around the building.”

The Wrexham United States tour kicks off when they play against Leeds United at Tampa and then later on against Liverpool at New York and finally against Sunderland at Philadelphia.
