During a live Wrexham AFC question and answer session, Williams highlighted the two positions he believes could still be strengthened despite the club already boasting a settled squad.
Williams was asked where Parkinson is most likely to recruit during the summer transfer window after Wrexham’s first season back in the Championship.
While he does not expect another busy window following last summer’s overhaul and three January arrivals, he believes there are still areas where the squad could be improved.
Williams pointed to wing-back as one position to watch after injuries disrupted Wrexham’s options last season.
Wing-back among Williams’ priorities
Responding to a question from supporter Tony Roberts, Williams said the departures of James McClean and Jacob Mendy, together with Issa Kaboré returning to Manchester City after his loan spell, could leave Parkinson looking to strengthen on the right.
He also highlighted Libby Cacace’s injury problems, which saw George Thomason fill in at wing-back during parts of the campaign.
“Hopefully Cacace is over his injuries now and he can compete with Thomason but now Issa Kabore has returned to Man City, surely bringing someone in on the right is in Parkinson’s thoughts.”
Williams added that Wrexham already have strong competition in other areas of the pitch.
“There’s no shortage of centre-backs and midfielders,” he said, while noting that Parkinson could still add quality if suitable players became available.
Another striker would not surprise Williams
Williams also believes Wrexham could recruit another forward to increase competition in attack.
With Sam Smith and Kieffer Moore already among Parkinson’s striking options, he suggested another addition would give the Reds greater depth across a demanding Championship campaign.
“I’d also expect PP to add firepower, so a striker to compete with Sam Smith and Kieffer Moore wouldn’t be a surprise this summer.”
The experienced Wrexham reporter made clear that any recruitment is likely to be targeted rather than extensive.
He said there would not be as much transfer business as last summer because the club already has a well-balanced squad after significant investment over the past two transfer windows.
Confidence in the current squad
Alongside discussing potential arrivals, Williams also praised several members of the existing squad.
He said Cacace “looked brilliant” when fit last season and believes his World Cup experience with New Zealand should benefit him heading into the new campaign.
Williams also singled out Callum Doyle for praise after what he described as a strong finish to the season.
“I thought Callum Doyle also really got better and better as the season wore on after a slow start to his Wrexham career, and deservedly got his awards.”
Despite identifying positions that could be strengthened, Williams’ overall message was one of confidence in the squad already assembled by Parkinson.
“You can see why he is so highly rated but there is talent in abundance throughout the squad, and that’s without new signings,” he said.
