After watching new drone footage showing the Kop Stand at Y Cae Ras in July 2026, Wrexham fans are puzzled by how far away from the pitch looks from the Kop Stand.
In fairness that’s a good question. The new images show an large open gap between the lowest concrete seating areas and the pitch edge.
The simple answer is that the front of the Kop Stand is not yet completed. The latest images show unfinished lower seating areas and construction machinery working nearby.

The currently visible concrete seating areas make up only a fraction of the total seating capacity. Additional work needs to be done in the pitch level area to know precisely how close the first rows will be to the goal.
This corresponds to the previous coverage which showed construction of the Kop Stand structure leaving the nearest to the pitch areas unconstructed.
UEFA requirements account for only a part of the difference
Some fans believe that UEFA rules give specific distances between the stands and the playing field. This is not quite correct.
According to current UEFA rules, a Category 4 playing field must be 105 meters by 68 meters. There must be safe zones near the field. However, there is no requirement in these rules about the specific distance between the goal line and the first row of seats. Claims about seats being placed exactly five or eight meters apart are not justified by the regulation.
In case of Wrexham’s larger Racecourse redevelopment project, such elements as safety zones, advertising boards, cameras, and other construction will take place around the pitch. All these constructions affect the distance behind the goal.
The completed stand needs to create an atmosphere of closeness
The proposed design looks quite different from the current construction of the stadium. The steep seating and roof of are created intentionally to provide a more dynamic interior.
“The seating bowl has been designed to create a home end for the Club’s fans that will reinforce the atmosphere within the STōK Cae Ras, with design of the roof optimised to amplify sound from the spectators towards the pitch.”
This intention is also aligned with the idea of building a new stand with steep rake and clear view lines, and not with a shallow stand that has nothing to do with the game.
The collection of the Kop Stand updates proves that the look will drastically change at every step.
Thus, the current distance is perceived much more impressive than what the final result will be. The lower tiers, barriers, and pitch side infrastructure are yet to reach their final places.
At the moment, the only correct explanation would be that the Kop stands very far from the pitch because Wrexham are building the part which will put the fans closer to it.
